Megan and James Holland and Friends

The Hollands, James on cello, and Megan on violin, and friend Kim Freden-
burgh on viola will play a concert of string trios and duos. Initial program

Cellist James Holland began his cello studies at the age of nine in his hometown of
Pensacola, Florida. He earned a bachelor of music degree in cello performance from
the University of Alabama and a master of music degree from the Eastman School of
Music. Upon completion of his master's degree, Holland became a member of the
Miami-based New World Symphony, where for two years he performed, toured, and
recorded under the baton of Michael Tilson Thomas. In 1996, he successfully audi-
tioned to become principal cellist for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and
cellist for the Charleston Symphony String Quartet. For many years he has been an
active and enthusiastic cello teacher and chamber music coach. Originally from
Albuquerque, Megan Holland has performed throughout the United States, Mexico,
Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands. Reviewers have characterized her perfor-
mances as "poised" and "powerful". She has previously held principal positions in
the Charleston Symphony, Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, and Opera South-
west. She performs regularly with Chatter and Albuquerque Chamber Soloists.
Holland is currently the Principal Second Violin of Santa Fe Pro Musica. She has also
been a recurring guest lecturer for the University of New Mexico Pedagogy Depart-
ment, specializing in the Mozart Violin Concerti and how to teach them.
Violist Kimberly Fredenburgh, originally from New York, is a professor of viola and cham-
ber music and serves as head of the string area at the University of New Mexico.
Fredenburgh has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician across the United States,
including Puerto Rico, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Canada, Portugal, Spain,
Germany, Italy, and Monaco. Fredenburgh is principal violist of the Santa Fe Symphony
Orchestra and Santa Fe Pro Musica, while serving as associate principal violist of the New
Mexico Philharmonic. Fredenburgh has performed many seasons with the Santa Fe Cham-
ber Music Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale; she is also a
regular performer with Chatter.
Fredenburgh served on the faculty at Arizona State University while also performing as
associate principal of the Phoenix Symphony and was a principal violist in the New World
Symphony in Miami under Michael Tilson Thomas. She has delivered pedagogical papers
and performed at several national string conferences and international competitions. Her
interest in contemporary music has resulted in the creation of many new works for the
viola. Recent performances include European premieres of chamber works by University of
New Mexico composers.
